Cal Ripken Jr. Bet on Mine That Bird to Win Kentucky Derby

It’s not really shocking that Cal Ripken Jr. and his wife Kelly bet on Mine That Bird to win the Kentucky Derby, especially when you read about all of the ominous signs connecting the underdog horse to the Iron Man.

The horse is called Mine That Bird, which appealed to the man who played for the Orioles all those years, and it was going to be ridden by Calvin Borel, who shares a first name with the Orioles Hall of Famer. The fact that the horse was coming out of the No. 8 slot clinched it. How could Cal and Kelly and all their friends not bet on Mine That Bird?

The question is just how many ducketts did No. 8 drop on MTB? At 50-to-1, you would think it was just a whim enhanced by a few mint julips in the suite....
