Enter Fernando Martinez: Mets’ Top Prospect Makes Debut

Last night against the Washington Nationals, the Mets filed into Citi Field wanting to catch a glimpse of the next possible superstar to grace the confines in Flushing.

Luckily for Martinez, it wasn't his name gracing the headlines of the sports pages in New York this morning, but instead a man 14-years his senior in Livan Hernandez.

Hernandez was stellar, pitching the first complete game by a Mets' pitcher since the memorable Johan Santana outing on September 27, 2008. Keeping a 20-year-old kid out of the headlines the day after his debut is usually a good thing, and leave it to the two longest veterans on the team to make sure the spotlight and pressure were elsewhere.
