Escobar’s Days in Atlanta Could Be Numbered

In today's 11-2 loss to the Orioles, Atlanta Braves shortstop, Yunel Escobar, was benched for botching a pickle play with two outs in the bottom of the second.

With runners on first and third, Derek Lowe attempted a pick off move, successfully putting the runner in a pickle. Rather than taking the guaranteed out, Escobar threw home and failed to record an out. This fielding misjudgment upset Bobby Cox enough that he benched Yunel.

This is not the first time Yunel has rubbed the Atlanta skipper the wrong way. In a 2008 summer game against the Brewers, Escobar was ejected for arguing with the umpire before Bobby had a chance to make it onto the field. After this incident Cox expressed disappointment that Escobar f...
