Fernando Martinez Plays Second Game In Majors and Is Not Impressive

Fernando Martinez made his second start in the Mets lineup last night against the Nationals and is not impressing anyone with his not running out the balls put into play.

Martinez has been given a chance to earn an every day lineup spot until Ryan Church returns from the Disabled List and he needs to prove that he belongs in the Majors.

Yes, I realize that he is only 20 years old, the age at which Jose Reyes made his major league debut, and David Wright was only 21 for his debut.

Jerry Manuel said after last night's game that these plays should be isolated incidents and that he does not believe they are regular occurrences for Martinez based on what he has seen in Spring Training and in org...
