Just a few possible avenues for Blue Jays General Manager JP Ricciardi to explore as the contending teams approach the trade deadline and gear up for stretch run.
Long gone are the days of Carter/Alomar for McGriff/Fernandez blockbusters and the Jays don't have the financial wherewithal to compete with the Yankees/Red Sox for big-ticket players (though Rios provides a solid and interesting bargaining chip). Strengthening the starting pitching with a veteran arm, adding an outfielder with some versatility and providing Rod Barajas with a more capable backup (sorry for not being sold on Raul Chavez) will likely be areas of exploration for Ricciardi as the July 31 deadline approaches....
