The first calendar month of the 2009 major league baseball season is over and it was a disappointing month for the Rays until last night. The Rays were 16-12 and four percentage points ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East on May 1 of 2008. This season, they are 9-14 and five-and-one-half games behind the Red Sox. Matt Garza showed the Red Sox they are not going to be pushovers this season by pitching seven-and-two-thirds innings of one-hit baseball.
