It's been a year without the National Basketball Association in the city of Seattle.

It still hurts, and I don't know if the pain will ever fade away.

I remember the day with startling clarity.

Howard Schultz held a press conference to spit in the face of a city that made him rich beyond his wildest dreams.

He had just handed over 40 years of tradition to a dusty cesspool called Oklahoma.

Schultz is a New York native, but when he bought the Sonics from the Ackerley family, he spoke in glowing terms of the bond between Seattle and its professional basketball team.

He spoke about the 1979 championship, and his desire to return the green and gold...
