Nets Won’t Trade Up in Draft

A year ago, Kiki Vandeweghe flew out to Los Angeles for a fool's errand.

The Nets general manager was there to watch a workout, and then interview a kid whom he figured he'd never meet again, because this 20-year-old was absolutely, positively guaranteed to be taken by Seattle (or Memphis, or Charlotte) long before the Nets made their selection at No. 10 in the 2008 NBA Draft.

"We were so sure of the guys we could cross off last year, and one of the guys who we crossed off got to us," said Vandeweghe, referring to center Brook Lopez, the surprise of the '08 field.
