The New Jersey Nets are a team in transition. They entered the 2008-09 season in a "rebuilding" mode to develop players, and were left with one marketable star in the previous offseason. They are also in the process of alienating their fans by a long and drawn out process to move the team to Brooklyn, so they were close to last in the league in attendance. Put it all together and the team is hemorrhaging money and was picked to finish dead last in a weak division. Obviously, ownership and the front office tried to keep the team competitive, and the results were mixed.
