The Steelers have historically built their teams through the NFL Draft. "Home grown talent." Every so often they'll sprinkle in a Free Agent here and there but it's usually not the big named star that everyone hopes for. The draft day trade for Jerome Bettis in 1996 was probably the all-time biggest trade for the Steelers—giving up a 2nd Round pick in the 1996 draft and a 4th rounder in 1997's draft.
The Bus' history with the Steelers is well noted. Since then, it's been slim pickings for the Steelers as far as free-agent superstars goes. Jeff Hartings? James Farrior? Ryan Clark? Justin Hartwig?
