Ephraim Salaam Signs with Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have signed 32-year-old veteran offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam.

Salaam, known as much for his comedic nature as his blocking, failed to reach a contract agreement with the Texans after losing his starting spot to 2008 first rounder Duane Brown.

Although not a huge threat to start on the left side, the signing of Salaam marks the first real threat to Jeff Backus' starting position in nearly a decade.

At 6'7", 310 lbs., Salaam is more of a technical blocker than a mauler. He was drafted in the seventh round in 1998 by the Atlanta Falcons. He has also played for the Broncos and the Jaguars before spending 2006-2008 with the Texans.

Odds are Salaam will be Detroit's swing tackle...
