Mike Smith and Mike Mularkey: Different Paths to the Top

When reminiscing about the Falcons' surprising turnaround in 2008, the first names that typically come to mind are the new additions on the field, most notably QB Matt Ryan and RB Michael Turner. Ryan, after all, won offensive rookie of the year and Turner finished second in the league in rushing in his first year as a starter.

However, none of their exploits on the gridiron would've been possible without the Falcons' new additions off of it.

Of the completely revamped coaching staff, new head coach Mike Smith and new offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey made the biggest impact on a team struggling not only to find wins, but to find an identity.
