Opportunity Knocks for 2009 New York Jets

Defensive lineman are switching to tight end; wide receivers have a foot on the field and another in the unemployment line; and the team added only three draft picks this offseason. Needless to say, the Jets have some positional holes peppered throughout their roster.

But where some see vacancies, others see opportunities.

Antonio Gates was a forward on the Kent State basketball team before the San Diego Chargers’ need for a tight end turned him into a household name.  Tom Brady once replaced an injured Drew Bledsoe in New England and even Wayne Chrebet’s career was catalyzed by the Jets’ need for a receiver in 1995.
