In the NFL, one position that often goes overlooked is the backup quarterback. This position is the guy who has to practice all week and never gets to play. Other than for holding field goals and occasional mop up duty, the backup quarterback gets as much playing time as the ball boy.
So why do NFL teams pay millions to a guy who only carries a clipboard and wears a headset to get the plays in?
The answer is quite simple. This is a vitally important position on the football team. Without a quality backup, a football is only one play away from being a really bad team. If needed, the backup needs to be able to go in and the offense should function as normal.
