CSKA Moscow Launch Legal Action Over Shirokov

As reported by various sources last week, the Vancouver Canucks have indeed signed Russian winger Sergei Shirokov to a two-year entry-level contract at a base salary of $875,000 per season plus bonuses.

However, James Mirtle of From the Rink is reporting that Shirokov's Kontinental Hockey League team, CSKA Moscow has launched legal action over the signing. This could explain why the signing has not been formally announced by the team yet.

Shirokov was the Canucks' sixth round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The pick was acquired as part of the Roberto Luongo trade from Florida.
