The Penguins-Capitals series shifted back to Washington for the all-important Game Five. Both teams held serve on their home ice, keeping this series deadlocked, at two wins apiece. Game Five was sure to be the pivotal game in this best-of-seven series.

If Pittsburgh was going to have a chance in this series after Game Two, players like Evgeni Malkin, Ruslan Fedotenko, Chris Kunitz, and Jordan Stall were going to have to start to contribute offensively. Superstar Sidney Crosby was not going to be able to take on the Caps all alone, as the first two games had shown.
