Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins Stop the Stanley Cup Curse

The Pittsburgh Penguins were winners of the first game of the NHL semifinals, 3-2 over the Carolina Hurricanes, proving they have broken the Stanley Cup curse.

The previous 11 teams that lost the Stanley Cup final series won only a single playoff round the following season. The Penguins have already won two rounds, plus game one of round three.

The Stanley Cup curse is ranked right up there with the "Curse of 1940" for the New York Rangers and the "Curse of the Bambino," until the Red Sox exorcized it in 2004. Some say the Toronto Maple Leafs are cursed and won't win another Stanley Cup until they retire the numbers of the jerseys worn by Leafs stars.
